SSAS 2008 / Excel 2007 - unable to see the cube

I created a cube in SSAS 2008. In BIDS and SSMS, I see this normally. However, I cannot connect through Excel. I tried both Excel 2003 and Excel 2007. I have to support both working. I see the database, but the cubes are not displayed.

I created a dummy cube in the project using the wizard and deployed it to the same database. In Excel 2003, I can see and connect to a dummy cube. Excel 2007 cannot even find the server / instance after adding this cube. I used a different computer and got the same results with Excel 2003.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The cube has the Visible property. If it is incorrect, Excel will not list the cube.

To see this property

A) Double-click the cube in the BI Studio of Solution Explorer

B) go to the cube tab

C) Right-click on the cube that appears in the Measures panel, or in the Measurement panel and select Properties.

Have you tried redeploying a cube that gives you problems? Remember that you also need to download OLE DB 9.0 and msxml v6 for Excel 2007. Google search for it and the first result should be the MSDN download page.

We had a similar problem in our organization. I created a simple role and added "Everyone" as a member. I gave the role "Read" access and "No" to the local cube. Drilled access.

After I redeployed the cube with this role, people were able to connect to excel.
