It is actually recommended to use
#import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h>
and then add the QuartzCore structure project to the project to use the low-level Core Animation classes.
Although all of this really imports CoreAnimation.h efficiently on iPhone, Mac QuartzCore also includes Core Image and Core Video, so Apple may add these and other features to QuartzCore on iPhone in the future. Frankly, Apple recommends using the above for Core Animation, so I put it off.
