Is it redirecting from http://domain.com to http://www.domain.com Avoids Duplicate Content on Google?

I heard that if I do not redirect the user from http://domain.com to http://www.domain.com this will lead to duplication of the contents of my site on Google and other search engines, is that so? and what is the mod rewrite syntax to do this via .htaccess?

thanks

Google (and other large searches) usually discovers a "complete clone", especially without the www. prefix www. . You can register your site with Google’s webmaster and choose whether Google will use the www. prefix www. for your site or use only domain.com .

According to Google itself (see the last paragraph), you don’t have to worry about duplicating content at all unless you are doing this with the aim of tricking search engines.

Check Google Webmaster Tools . This is basically an interface for domain owners to control how Google indexes a site. There you can configure what is called the “Preferred Domain”, which means that when Google will broadcast links from any of the DNS subnets to one DNS name (for example, example.com => www.example.com) and will not direct people to others.
