Current usage statistics for iPhone OS (especially 2.x vs 3.x)

I'm trying to figure out how many active users of the iPhone and iPod touch have at least 3.0 OS.

I need to know if the percentage executed by 2.x is still significant or not working.

I tried to study AdMob statistics and other OS usage statistics sites, but I can not see iPhone 2.x and iPhone 3.x

As of January 2010, shortly before release 3.1.3:

About 30,000 downloads (mainly in Austria, some in Germany) for one of our free applications, there are less than 5% of devices still 2.2.1 or older (as reported by UIDevice ).

Less than a quarter did not have the latest OS version (3.1.2 at that time).

It’s good to know the 2.x VS 3.x ratio, but you can also ask yourself: β€œLet's look at someone who is still using 2.x: is this person really a potential user of your application or application user?”, In my opinion : not.

Thus, targeting below 3.0 does not make any sense IMHO.

A quick note regarding iPhone OS 2.1.1 in the user agent is used by most bots claiming to be iPhone.

Check out flurry.com. They have a free SDK that uses about two lines of code to track all kinds of interesting details, such as OS version, device type, device version, location, which wireless carrier was used, using WIFI, etc.

More recent data. (Bottom line: 4.0+ is effectively ubiquitous on the iPhone β€” 91%.)
