Project management software

Recently, I was instructed to write a rather large (for 1 person) program and would like to know what the best software to use to manage this project. Something that I can list what needs to be done, and check it out when it's done, something to keep me posted.

I am here FogBugz here. What you ask, and if only someone will be one user, you can use it for free .

Another option for basic task scheduling / prioritization tasks is SmartSheet - they never clicked with me personally, but many people seem to like it. It is worth checking out as an alternative.

If you find free open source project management software, you can use Trac or Collabtive . We use them for project management.

Otherwise, if you have the money and need professional service, why not try FogBugz or BaseCamp for a free trial?

I would suggest Mylyn if you are in Eclipse. Trac is a great ticket / task tracking system.

We used XPlanner , which was neat and easy to use.

We use http://easyprojects.net/ and it works pretty well.

If you are using visual studio, there are built-in task list functions. I am sure that some other IDEs also have similar features. I am working on a MS project at a company - this is the defacto standard. I really do not see in it the value for a one-person project. I use Todolist for personal time management.

You might want to consider fossil .

This is a source code management system with a built-in ticket and wiki system.

It is trivial to make it work (only one binary file).

It is cross-platform.

It stores the entire repository in a SQLite database.

You can take a look at the new project management and collaboration tool called Crew.
