Use ABAddressBookRegisterExternalChangeCallback to listen for updates in the address book.

You can also listen to the @"ABCDataBaseChangedExternallyNotification" or even the deeper Darwin "__ABDataBaseChangedByOtherProcessNotification" notification "__ABDataBaseChangedByOtherProcessNotification" Darwin, but they are all undocumented.
