How to export data from Excel to valid Xml?

I have an Excel spreadsheet with some data that I would like to export to an Xml file.
This exported Xml must be valid against Xsd.

Please note that all formatting and validation must be performed inside Excel, because this will be the only tool available to the person who will perform the export.

Any recommendations for this task?

Save the file in XML format from Excel. This is called MS Office XML. Documentation (and schema) is available for both Office 2003 and 2007 .

I know this is a very old question, but just in case someone else comes across.

The accepted answer is good, but XMLSS is much more complicated (although it is valid XML), I thought about sharing this resource at Microsoft . This explains everything step by step.

Another option is to create a CSV file and then convert it to XML using XI. There was an article about working with IBM developers that can do the job pretty well.

This Java API may also be of interest to a few.

two things, write a plugin for excel or convert excelfile to xml and create xsd. Edit xml in excel and you will have validaion in excel against this.
