Am I getting the same version name for WSS and MOSS 2007?

response = urllib2.urlopen(url) print response.info().getheader('MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices')

I am using the python code above to get the sharepoint confirmation version using the website url.

WSS: MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 12.0.0.4518 MOSS: MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 12.0.0.4518 SP2010: MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 14.0.0.4762

So now I am confused because for MOSS and WSS it returns the same id version. Why is this happening, how to resolve it? Is there a way v \ to

The version is the same for everyone. MOSS is nothing more than a pair of add-on modules on top of WSS.

Check out this post on how to distinguish MOSS and WSS from SharePoint code.

Not sure if this will help you how you want to watch remotely. You may want to add a simple web service to your SharePoint instance. Or try requesting only the MOSS webpage and see if it exists.
