Play Javascript with 360 ° VR View from iPad Gallery

The iPad http://movies.apple.com/ipad/gallery/ has an excellent 3D view when you click the 360 ° button in the lower right corner. It seems to be built with Prototype, some custom JS and 180 separate JPEG files.
Now I do not want to steal Apple code, but I really would like to have a similar effect. I’m afraid that to recreate the effect by itself will be too much for me, so has anyone ever done something like this and released it as an open source (or a paid library or something like that)? Integration with jQuery will be an added bonus.

Perhaps try changing the IMG SRC tag to document.onmousemove and object.onmousedown for drag and drop / positioning effect?

It may sound obvious, and I'm not an insidious one, but this is the beginning ...
