What are the restrictions on file names saved on iPhone?

I can not find any documentation about this. Is there a limit on the number of characters that can be used in the file name and / or is there a limit on what characters can be used in the file name saved by the iPhone application? Thanks.

The subsystem is the HFS + file system , which restricts file names to 255 UTF-16 characters . There may be additional restrictions on file names, but I do not know about them.

According to this site , the only prohibited character on HFS + volumes (which, as Michael Green stated, is the base file system on the iPhone) is the colon character. You may also have problems using the "/" character, since OS X also treats them as directory separators.

I don’t know if the colon (:), the folder separator from HFS days, works, but it’s better to avoid such characters.
