Symbol "|" in sms

Question

I program sending sms with "|" in line, and getting this android makes it unreadable. Can I do something about this? Thanks.

Below is an overview of the GSM 03.38 character set. As far as I understand, you should send an <ESC> char before | . And a few more characters that need to be escaped.
