Problem with iPhone Control Panel Icon

I have a problem using icons with a tab control and I don't know how to fix it. The icons that I use are png 24 * 24 format.

They have a gray gradient background with a black shape in the middle. The problem is that only the background gradient is displayed. The black shape in the middle does not.

Did I use the wrong format or something else? I read in a book to use PNG format 24 * 24

You cannot use the background on your icon.

The icons are intended for use as an alpha mask, and the background will make it look like a filled square. Remove the gradient and use an image with an icon in the middle and a transparent background.
