Grails Warnings / Errors During Application Launch

Currently, I see warnings below when I try to run the Google App Engine / Grails application in Eclipse.

  • Warning, target overwriting startLogging name
  • Warning: C: \ Users \ Some Person.grails \ 1.2.0 \ projects \ test-grails \ plugins \ app-engine-0.8.8 \ grails-app \ conf \ spring was not found.
  • Warning: C: \ Users \ Some Person.grails \ 1.2.0 \ projects \ test-grails \ plugins \ app-engine-0.8.8 \ grails-app \ conf was not found.
  • Warning: C: \ Users \ Some Person.grails \ 1.2.0 \ projects \ test-grails \ plugins \ app-engine-0.8.8 \ grails-app \ conf \ hibernate was not found.

Here is the console output:

I get this error after creating a Grails project using Spring Tools Suite (STS) and then installing the Grail-Installer-Plugin-Application-Engine engine plug-in. I used to install the app-engine plugin, the Grails project started correctly.

Any ideas on how to resolve these warnings?

Warning 1 is caused by a problem in Grails scripts. I looked in JIRA but could not see the error report related to it. I do not think that it causes any side effects.

Warnings 2,3 and 4 relate to folders inside the app-engine plugin. Even if they are annoying, they will not do any harm. The best thing you could do is raise JIRA against the application plugin and ask the author to add these folders to stop the warnings.

You created an application with grails create-app , right? This should have created a folder under conf (both hibernate and spring under it) under the root of the grails project.

If you are working with an IDE, it is possible that the IDE does not see the β€œfolders” because they are empty, which is also an error in itself.

From the moment of writing, do not use Spring Tools Suite to create grails applications, because 1) it is still new and not mature enough, 2) it changes some default settings and causes a lot of problems, especially if you mix the command line execution.

Use Netbeans or IntelliJ. To create grails applications, I switched from Eclipse to Netbeans, although I am a big proponent of Eclipse.
