Grails and Google App Engine. Should I use them together?

I play with Grails and the Google App Engine for a day or so using the Eclipse + STS + Google plugin, and I came across several roadblocks.

However, I'm not sure if this is simply a lack of experience with them on my part or if Grails + GAE support is not mature enough. Should I switch to Java + GAE until Grails support ripens?

I would not go for it. Growing up takes more time.

The website itself says the plugin is listening.

Mistakes

It is true that there are some errors with this plugin, but most of them are a solution at this time.

Example: "Enhancer DataNucleus prevents the creation of a Windows application due to the path length exceeding the maximum path length in Windows."

However, there is a workflow for Windows, and this will not stop using the plugin.

Some annoying errors are not fixed:

If you like spending time debugging a plugin, writing and testing workarounds, go for it. However, you will not be safe from the critical / problem blocks that will make you MAAAD!

If you really want to work with the App-Engine, using Eclipse and Google Plugin for Eclipse seems to be the easiest and most efficient method.

Grails on the App Engine definitely matures with each new version (from Grails and the App Engine plugin). If you post questions about your road blocks, I’m sure that people can help you. There are now quite a few public Grails / GAE sites.

As Boris said, Gaelyk is a good easy alternative for simpler sites.
