Can I play sound and microphone from an iPhone simultaneously?

I want to simultaneously play sound and record sound on iPhone.

All applications that record sound, first turn off any music. However, since music violates their purpose, I don’t know whether they do it intentionally or the iPhone does it automatically when recording from a microphone.

Does anyone have any experience?

I heard something about this in one episode of the podcast for mobile gardens - the one with Michael Tyson, the creator of Loopy. During the discussion, Michael explained that he had to include some code in order to filter out the sounds that came through the microphone in real time when other sounds were playing on the speaker.

Based on this discussion, it seems quite possible to play and record at the same time, but I'm sure you will have to do your own filtering to avoid recording the sounds you play.

You can use either the base audio node or the audio queue, and you need to make sure that the category of your audio session is set to kAudioSessionCategory_PlayAndRecord .

Beware that the sound when you use this session is much quieter than a regular solo session (observed in 3.0).
