Where to find the volume icon on Leopard

I want to change the default icon for dmg, I would like to make it like skype or dropbox, which use the default image level icon, but I can not find it with finder. Do you have any ideas where I can find him?

Thanks for your reply, Boris

Good. I did not find the icon in the search device, but you can download the full set of icons here: here

Also, if you want to set the dmg icon from the cmd line:

  • cp <your file.icns> <your installed image path> .VolumeIcon.icns (make sure your dmg is writable)

  • SetFile -a C <your path to the path>

The second command line is used to tell dmg to use the icon after installation.

If you want to make icns from any image, look at this free software: img2icns

If you want to set your own volume icon, use the command

/* SetFile -c icnC will change the creator of the file to icnC */ SetFile -c icnC /<your path>/.VolumeIcon.icns

Now create read / write dmg

 /* to set custom icon attribute */ SetFile -a C /Volumes/dmgName
