What is the short cut in eclipse to complete debugging / launching?

What is a shortcut in eclipse to complete debugging / launching? In the "Settings" β†’ "Keys" section, Ctrl + F2 says, but it does not work.

As said here , you can add / include a group of Debug commands in any perspective using Window / Customize Perspective > Commands .
(Select the Debug group)

Then open the Debug view in the Java perspective (perhaps as a Quick View option), and you should get the Terminate keyword.

I suppose it did not work because you tried it in a session without debugging.

Go to Settings β†’ General β†’ Keys

Find β€œFinish”. Set the binding to what you want (in my case, F12 ).

Then change the "When" from "Debug" to "Edit Java Source".

Now works for me.

The transition to setting the perspective only showed me the bindings that I already had, do not let me set them.

Well, this is admittedly a lame answer, but here it goes. CTRL + F2 just doesn't work for me (from any perspective). I have no idea why. I am running 3.5.2

So, I pressed Alt , R , T , Enter .

Alt to get to the top menu bar. R to select the run menu. T to select completion. Finally, Enter to call it. This is really not so bad. Lame? Yes. Faster than a mouse click? Of course.

A debug window opens in your perspective ( Alt + Shift + Q , Q -> find Debug). After starting your application, use CTRL + F7 ( Command + F7 on Mac) to switch to debug mode, press down to highlight the running application, and activate the termination shortcut

Referring to this answer, I do not think that it works all the time, because depending on what was started, eclipse may not register the terminate command as available.

For example, when I start my project using maven (m2e plugin), the completion button on the console view is available, but not on the menu. See screenshot below (I used Springsource Tools Suite 2.9.2, which is based on eclipse indigo and m2e 1.0.200)

When running maven, console view terminate button is available but not on Run menu

This is because the running application is not selected by default in the debug view.

This issue is discussed in the forum.

Read all this, but did not find an easy way. So I put together a very simple plugin .

Hope this helps someone else too.

F2 may already be used by your operating system, which may intercept a keystroke before Eclipse gets a chance.

On macs, the F2 key is often used to increase screen brightness. This will take precedence over everything that Eclipse assigns to it. Translation: when you press F2 on some poppies (depending on your settings), your screen will (try) to light up, and Eclipse will do nothing.

Hope this helps.

In the Window tab, you can see the shortcuts:

I also ran into this problem, but still have not found the right solution.

Apparently, since multiple instances of user programs can work together, they (eclipse developers) simply did not set a common termination key.

As I just saw in the Errors section, they (probably) work on displaying a dialog to select the startup program that you want to stop when you click the exit button (probably by default it will be Ctrl + F2).

You may see an error page for this problem for more information and updates. hope this helps anyone.

Many of the answers above work for some people, but maybe not for everyone. As Scott Biggs noted, the F2 command may not work with Macs (note that to get F2 on a Mac, you also need to hold down the fn key), so you can reset the shift-F2 binding. Worked for me while you debug.
