Assist Browser Objects (BHOs) on Windows Vista with administrative privileges only?

For a university project, I programmed an Internet Explorer helper object to process web document information while browsing. It worked successfully on Windows XP with IE6 and IE7.

Now I have a problem that in Windows Vista the same BHO needs administrator privileges to run. The browser and BHO start if you start IE as an administrator, but if you start as a regular user, it will work.

BHO, of course, is registered in the system and activated in the browser.

What can I do if a user with non-administrator rights can run a registered and activated BHO? Or maybe something else is the reason, and I completely miss her?

Many thanks for your help!

Not sure if your problem is with custom actions in your installer, but the following two links will help you.

You should use a debugger to determine why the addon crashes. Most likely, you are trying to write to a secure place, and if this fails, your code will not be able to check the result of the error.

Using Process Monitor and viewing Access_Denied returns is often useful, but using a full debugger is the right way.
