It is currently not possible to perform frame blending using the built-in Movie Loader patch.
You can arbitrarily control the playback head.
- Paste the
Movie Loader patch and set the Movie Location . - Connect it to the
Billboard . The movie should play at normal speed. - Right-click the patch, select
Timebase , and then select External . This gives the Movie Loader a Patch Time and freezes it in the first frame.- The value you enter for
Patch Time is the time offset in seconds at which Movie Loader should be displayed.
- Insert the
Patch Time patch and connect its output to the Movie Loader Patch Time input. The movie should play again at normal speed.
Now comes the interesting part:
- Insert the
Mathematical Expression patch and enter t/2 for the equation. - Connect the
Patch Time patch to the Mathematical Expression input and the Mathematical Expression output to the Movie Loader Patch Time input - now the movie plays at half speed.
You can change the equation to change the playback speed. t/3 will play at 1/3, t*2 will play at double speed, etc.
However , if you change the equation of playback speed during movie playback, you will notice that the playback head moves to a new position, rather than continuing from the previous time.
To solve this problem, you will want to use the Integrator patch.
- Create an
Integrator , set the Value to 1 and connect the Integrator pin to the Movie Loader Patch Time input. The film should play from the very beginning at a normal speed. - Change the
Integrator Value to 0.5 . The film should play at half speed, continuing from the current position.
You can even play back movies using this technique (although, depending on which codec you use, this can greatly affect performance).
