Does mod_rails and mongrel work on the same server?

I am currently running monitor-based Mongro clusters, watching them for 8 Rails applications on a single server.

I would like to move 7 of these applications to mod_rails, with one remaining on mongrel. 7 small applications are small, and the one that I would like to leave on mongrel is a large volume application.

As I understand it, this would be a better solution - since the PassengerPoolIdleTime parameter can only be applied globally.

What configuration do you need when setting up this type?

I would probably just move all applications to mod_rails, as the performance seems comparable to Mongrel and there are less administrative overhead.

Regarding gotchas configuration, just make sure you have resolved your shared directory or you will find that static assets are not working:

<Directory "/var/www/app/current/public"> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory>

Also, if you know how to configure Apache, mod_rails is very painless.

Finished moving everything to mod_rails.

Works like a champion!
