How does Authorize.Net Silent Post work?

Authorize.net offers the Silent POST feature for its Automated Periodic Billing. It should provide POST data at your chosen URL, telling you whether it can charge the client, how much, etc. The problem is that it is not well documented.

  • Is there any way to check the message at this URL? I signed up for a developer account, but I can’t specify this URL, as you could in a real system. Therefore, there seems to be no way to verify this.
  • If not, is there a list of possible values that it could return? It seems to be sending x_first_name , x_amount - I saw a code that uses these values, but since I cannot get it to send a response, I'm not sure.
  • Is there any documentation for this feature anywhere? Or even a class that fully implements it?

I have not seen much on it just for AIM and SIM, you could just give them a call.

Log in to your account to order Authorize.Net authorization and click on the "Settings" link (in the "ACCOUNT" field in the left column). Then click on the "Silent Post URL" link in the transaction format settings area. You can enter your quiet URL on the next page. The next page also contains a link to documentation explaining the technical details. NTN

You still need to call your account in order to activate the Silent Post URL with your account because it is not something that is automatically enabled
