What platforms is / will JavaFX be supported?

I read about JavaFX, and like all new technologies, I wanted my hands to be dirty. However, although he speaks of support for multi-platform, I can not find any features in this.

What platforms support the JavaFX application? Is everything with Java SE? ME? Does it depend on the API in JavaFX that I use?

JavaFX has three planned distributions.

  • JavaFX Desktop will run on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Solaris on FCS and will require Java SE. Support for Linux and Solaris is expected.
  • JavaFX TV and JavaFX Mobile do not announce target platforms. It is also not announced whether they will run on ME or SE, and if ME, which profile.

One of the important differences in the platform is that JavaFX Desktop will support Swing components, while JavaFX Mobile will not (only a scene graph for graphics). JavaFX TV is the least publicly specific of the three at present.

From what I see, JavaFX is a completely new runtime and compiler, so it is not a subset of Java. Sun will support it on mobile phones and on the desktop.

OS-wise is currently released for Windows / Mac, but Solaris / Linux works.

JavaFx is not a new runtime. This is the same JRE, but a new language / compiler with several new APIs to make this all work.

Using Netbeans, you can create applications on any platform. Today APIs are in beta. Class files created by the compiler are compatible with JRE 6.
