Database Comparison - Windows Mobile

What are the various database options in Windows Mobile? I used CEDB and EDB for a linear data set.

I heard about the version of SQL Server 2005 Mobile. But what are the advantages over others (if any)

I found both sqllite and codebase easy to implement and install. Easier (and more stable) than Microsoft options, which seem to be in a serious stream.

Also see SQLite for Windows CE . There are also .NET bindings that can be used for use in the Compact Framework.

I think it is now called SQL Server Compact. The advantages are that it has a syntax compatible with the full SQL server, that any query that you write for it is guaranteed to work on an equivalent SQL Server Express / Standard / Enterprise DB database. However, the converse is not necessarily true.

Do you need SQL support? If not, look for a lightweight embedded DBM-like solution. I used Tokyo Cabinet for a number of embedded solutions where SQL was not needed, and they really liked the speed and flexibility that it provides. YMMV.

We use Sybase Ultralite. Before that, we used Codebase to connect to foxpro tables. I am not a mobile device developer, but I understand that we chose it for SQL Server to improve performance and memory usage. We also found that they had good support when we discovered any problems.

I would no longer use CEDB as I fear that WM7 will refuse support.
