Eclipse Neon Screen - Disable Greeting

How to disable welcome screen in Eclipse Neon?

Although there is a similar question for Eclipse Juno, the suggested methods do not seem to work in Eclipse Neon.

One of the issues I discovered is to check the box: always show Welcome at start up checked. If I remove it and restart Eclipse Neon, it will be checked again.

The same behavior happens when I go to Help->Welcome , it seems that the checkbox does not work.

The main reason I can turn off the welcome screen is to find out if I can solve the problem with Ctrol-Arrow , which does not work when the welcome screen is shown, as described in this question . Therefore, I would also appreciate if there would be another solution to this problem.

I also tried removing the -showsplash line in the -showsplash file, but it doesn’t work either.

I noticed that the problem occurs when I use only Windows 7. I tried this with Windows 10 and it seems to work. Perhaps the problem is related to Windows 7.

Uncheck the box "Always show the greeting as a start", you need to close the "Welcome" view (by clicking on the X tab). Only after that can you close or restart Eclipse, which will no longer show “Welcome” during startup.

-showsplash - red herring; it controls which screensaver (default: Eclipse Neon logo). Deleting this line and the next one ( org.eclipse.platform ) will not disable the splash screen. However, adding -noSplash to your Eclipse.ini (or via the Eclipse command line) will be. See the Eclipse Platform for more information.

In any case, none of the options controls the type of greeting that you want to disable. Hence the "red herring."
