Where do Linux TCP / IP hackers live?

Over the past year or so, my production platform has been plagued by an odd TCP / IP problem. I spent millions of hours working with competent and knowledgeable system administrators cleaning the network, reading the source code, was hacked by RH with touching support and crying tears of blood ! But to no avail. (Google 'unkn-4' and you will see many posts with my name.)

Working rounds are valid, so the problem is not a priority. But the geek in me would really like to understand and solve this problem.

So, where can a programmer with a moderate degree of competence go to detailed questions and get detailed answers from the "Lords of TCP / IP stacks"? I assume that their world is so close to bare metal, their small population is different from my own. This, and they don’t want to answer emails to β€œMy modem isn’t working,” so they are hiding in the shadows.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Dave Miller (the person responsible for networking in the Linux kernel) and their fellow students all live in lkml or the Linux kernel mailing list . If you can provide a fairly decent error report, you will get a reasonable answer.

On the other hand, if you tell them that it is a very old kernel, they will tell you to try the latest ones ... At least you can try to search your archives.

The linux-net mailing list may interest you. There should be more here .
