How to copy error message in Android Studio tooltip

How can you select or copy error tooltips that occur when you hover over code in Android Studio?

For instance: Android Studio tooltip error

Is there a key team? I am on a Mac, if appropriate. Thanks!

On a Mac, a slightly different dance than Windows.

  • hold shift
  • press and hold at the end of the text (possibly the missing last character)
  • hold down the mouse and release shift
  • while holding down the mouse button, press Command + C to copy
  • insert

On Windows: try: 1. Hover over the yellow pop-up text 2. Alt + LeftMouseClick 3. Now the "yellow text" should be on the clipboard and ready to paste.

When the popup appears, move the mouse over it and simply select (mark) the text of the bubble, then Copy with the keyboard arrow ( CTRL + C on Windows or Command + C on Mac), still having the mouse pointer over the bubble.

Not sure how on Mac, but on Windows it works for me, except that you need to constantly hold the mouse pointer over the bubble, otherwise it will go away (which sometimes makes me copy everything except the last character from this message).

Old solutions do not seem to work for me. Not sure if the behavior has changed, but here is what works for me on a Mac with Android Studio 3.4:

  1. press control + option simultaneously
  2. hover over the text with an error
  3. Click on the tooltip when it appears.
