Testing Your HomeKit Application
If you do not have physical accessories, use the HomeKit Accessory Simulator to simulate accessories in the house. Each simulated accessory has services with features that you can control from your application.
Adding Accessories
Using the HomeKit Accessory simulator to add some accessories to a simulated network.
To add an accessory to the network
In HomeKit Accessory Simulator, click the Add (+) button at the bottom of the left column.
- Select "Add Accessory" from the pop-up menu.
- Enter the name of the accessory and manufacturer.
- Enter the name of the accessory and manufacturer.
Click Finish

HomeKit Accessory Simulator is an optional developer tool that is not installed with Xcode. To install HomeKit Accessory Simulator, follow the steps in Download Simulator Simulator for HomeKit.
Download HomeKit Accessories Simulator
You do not need to buy accessories to develop your HomeKit application. You can use the HomeKit Accessory Simulator to test the connection of your HomeKit application with simulated accessories. HomeKit Accessory Simulator is not distributed with Xcode.
To download HomeKit Accessory Simulator
- In the HomeKit section of the Features panel, click Download HomeKit Accessory Simulator.
Alternatively, select Xcode> Open Developer Tool> Advanced Developer Tools.
In the browser, locate and download the .dmg file "IO Tools for Xcode Hardware".
- In Finder, double-click the .dmg file in ~ / Downloads. Drag HomeKit Accessory Simulator to the / Applications folder.
