MAVEN error loading dl4j examples

Before asking a question, let me just say that I am completely new to DL4J, maven and java, so please bear your stupid question.

I try to install dl4j examples using the mvn clean install command, but I get the following error:

 [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:3.5.1:compile (default-compile) on project datavec-examples: Fatal error compiling: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/tools/javac/file/BaseFileObject: com.sun.tools.javac.file.BaseFileObject -> [Help 1]

Now, what I don't understand, am I getting this error due to java or maven?

Full stack error:

This may be due to compatibility issues with Lombok (using dl4j) and jdk 9. If you can switch to jdk 8, it should work. (Or change the version of lombok to a version that can work with jdk 9. I suggest the first solution)
