Failed to create new Q # project using Microsoft Quantum Development Kit

Question

By installing the Microsoft Quantum Development Kit , the creation of a new Q # project ends with an unclear message:

The argument cannot be null: Parameter name: node.

(I am using a clean installation of the Visual Studio 2017 community with the latest updates.)

I had a similar problem (also with VS Community 2017 and Q #) - VS repair fixed the problem for me, and it has worked fine ever since.
