Scrolling list error during mouse lasso selection (Update 10 for Windows 10 16299)

since the latest updates for Windows 10, all programs that use list controls (including mine and most other people ) cannot use selection highlighting (choose to draw a rectangle around the elements with the mouse).

the problem is very easy to reproduce, just use any view of the list with enough elements in it that cause the horizontal or vertical scroll bar to appear, and then try to make this lasso selection with the mouse, and you will see that the mouse pointer jumps one corner of the screen! (usually bottom right)

it starts with Windows 10 build 16299, not earlier. This only affects 64-bit programs (my 32-bit version works fine). The only 64-bit program that works is Windows Explorer.

I assume that Microsoft should be notified of this and provide a solution, because an error is something that affects all Windows desktop programs. But I wonder if anyone has found a workaround?

Thanks for reporting the error! This has already been fixed. The fix should be available in the next version of Windows Insider (17097 +).

The β€œdiscontinuous” solution is to disable the lasso selection (return 1 from LVN_MARQUEEBEGIN). You lose the convenient selection mechanism, but at least the mouse will not jump like crazy

hope MS soon provides a permanent fix for the list control
