Invalid directory - FileZilla

I have a website template that I uploaded to my ftp server using FileZilla. However, when I visit the domain, I get an error message:

Directory List Denied

This virtual directory does not allow content to be specified.

the console displays 403 forbidden error. After studying, I realized that the default web page in the root directory is not installed. All attempts to set the default page failed. Here is what I tried:

1) I went to the ftp server with FileZilla. Click File> Site Manager> Advanced and set the root directory. The root directory contains a file that reports index.html

2) Created a .htaccess file in the root directory, which contains the text "DirectoryIndex index.html"

IIS related solutions are also welcome.

Any tips on how I can fix this?

Unfortunately, I did not have permission to access the actual server files, so I contacted the hosting company.

They solved my problem, I believe, using the @alvits approach recommended, however they did not return my request to confirm how they solved it.
