Question

Is it necessary to store and access blocks, what type of storage account is most suitable? Both types (general-purpose storage and blob storage) seem to support drops, and in addition to these general accounts, you can choose the default or premium performance, while blob accounts only use the default performance, but, on the other hand, they also allow you to choose the access level (cool or hot).

In the end, I find it unclear what the best option would be.

A few differences between Blob and General Purpose Vault Accounts:

• A Blob memory account only supports blobs, while general-purpose accounts support blobs, files, queues, and tables (some exception applies - see the replication note below). Therefore, if you ever need these additional services, you can choose general-purpose accounts for blob accounts.
• A Blob memory account only supports blocking and block additions, while shared support storage records support block, add, and page drops (some exception applies - see the replication note below). Therefore, if you need to create virtual machines, you will need to select shared accounts for blob accounts.
• Blob accounts support Hot and Cool access levels, while general-purpose accounts only support Hot access levels. Therefore, if you need to use the Cool access level, i.e. To use the repository mainly for offshore archiving, you need to select blob accounts for shared accounts.

You can be careful when choosing a type of replication in general accounts, because the features offered depend on the type of replication.

• LRS, GRS, RAGRS: Supports everything. Blobs (Block, Append, Page), files, queues, and tables.
• ZRS: Only supports block blobs and nothing more.
• Premium LRS: only supports drops of pages and nothing more.
