How to install xcode from xip file

I am very new to macos, I just need a mac with xcode to compile my application. However, with Macos Sierra, I have a problem with my USB, which no longer works (I can not connect my iPad Pro)

under OSX el capitan my usb works fine, but now the problem is that the application store offers me to download only Xcode 8.3, which can only work on sierra (it is strange that they offer you to download something that is not compatible with your system, but it doesn’t hurt, this is an apple). so the only way i have is to manually download Xcode 8.2.1

Now my question is, how to install the Xcode_8.2.1.xip that I just downloaded? and in the near future, if I need to update Xcode (I think downloading myself a new version), how will I do? Also, where are the settings and settings saved? Will these settings be lost with every update?

Double-click the xip file and it will extract the Xcode application. Move Xcode to the Applications folder and you will go well.

The Xcode update should appear on the App Store after upgrading to Sierra (macOS 10.12). If this is not the case, you can download Xcode from the App Store for free. Settings are saved in /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences and do not affect the update of the Xcode or OS version.

For example, if the XIP file is on the desktop: open the Terminal application, which is located in / Applications / Utilities /, and run the following command:

  xip -x ~/Desktop/Xcode_8.2.1.xip

You can unzip the Xcode.xip file from the command line. It seems a lot faster.

 xip -x ./Xcode.xip

Then move it to the program folder.
