Error: execution completed for task ": app: packageRelease". > java.io.IOException: Failed to read zip file
I get the following error when I try to build a release build. I am using Android 2.3. I added my gradle and proguard rule files below and I use mac with mac os X
Error:Execution failed for task ':app:packageRelease'. > java.io.IOException: Failed to read zip file '/Users/username/Documents/Android Projects/Project Name/app/build/intermediates/transforms/proguard/release/jars/3/1f/main.jar'. Proguard rule file

The issue will be addressed with version 2.4 of the Android gradle plugin (not yet released at the moment).
An alternative is to switch to 2.2.3:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.2.3' For me, this error occurred when I was building a project on Windows, where write access was granted only to admin users, and Android Studio was running in normal mode (not in administrator mode). When I launched Android studio with "Run as administrator", write access was available and .apk was generated successfully.
