Strategy for using emacs now that Apple has deleted the evacuation key?

Apple removed the evacuation key and replaced it with the OLED touchpad. This has implications for emacs users, especially UNIX / emacs users who have ten-year muscle memory to overcome this change. Fortunately, the touchpad power off key is always there when you need it, but it’s harder to sense and compensate for the tilde key, which makes it even more difficult.

Time will tell if it is possible to reinstall muscle memory to reliably hit this new evacuation key, but in the meantime I'm looking for another strategy to replace the evacuation key when using emacs.

Any help?

I have displayed a keyboard to exit to Cg and this works well. Between setting the Option key in the meta in the Terminal.app parameters (which also adds a touchpad button to easily switch with this behavior) and displaying the keyboard - I think I'm good to go.
