Xcode cannot work with the selected device

This message is when trying to run under Xcode 4 (it was used to work in Xcode 3):

No iOS devices available. Connect an iOS device or select an iOS simulator as the destination.

I have profiles for my device for this application ... where should I look to fix this?

You ask where to find it :

A new button has appeared in Xcode 4 - find the big one

"Organizer Button"

which is in TOP LAW.

Physically connect your device and click on "Devices". It seems that the new “Organizer” button is one of the most “missed” things when switching to Xcode4.

Notice that the question asks: “ WHERE should I fix this?”

The problem is that your goal of deploying iOS in Project-> Build Settings is different from the current version of iOS on your real device.

I had additional problems due to my Enterprise License, but iPads were still being updated. I did not need to change anything in the build settings in order to omit it. But the main thing that I encountered was in the organizer, I had to click the "Use for Development" button.

Kind of an old post, and maybe this is not the best way or a newbie who wants to skip but wanted to help someone.

My problem, similar to the one described above, is because the target installation for deployment is too high for the version installed on the phone. It would be nice if it would give a more useful error message. I spent hours tinkering with my settings profile, trying to fix it when the real problem was an older version of the software on the phone.

I had the same problem. The reason was simply because my ipad did not upgrade to version 4.3.

This happened to me for iOS5 with xcode 4.2.
The answer is to enter the organizer, select your device and click the "Deploy with this device" button (or a similar wording). Then go back and build, and it should work.

I got this error when connecting iPad properly.

Some information:

  • Ipad iOS Version: 4.2.1
  • Xcode 4.2
  • An Xcode project created using the IOS App / Blank Application template.

The problem was that I needed to point "iOS Deployment Goal" to 4.2 in more than one place !

That is, both in the "Build Settings" and in the "Summary".

Very strange, and definitely another annoyance of Xcode4.

I got this error in Organizer - "Could not support development." I tried to reboot the iOS device and it worked for me :)

Ensure that the executable (also known as CFBundleExecutable) in the Info.plist file is set to $ {EXECUTABLE_NAME} , unlike any hard-coded value. This ensures that even if you change the project name or target name or schema name, it still works.

you need to install the correct version of iOS. In my case, this is iOS 4.0 - 4.1. GOTO device debugging support → Xcode settings → Downloads → Component all updates are available for your iOS, click “Install”.

This works for me.

It looks like this error can also occur if the "Product Name" in your target build settings does not match the "CFBundleExecutable" value in your info.plist file

It seems to me that this is a common error that Apple gives if the executable file is installed incorrectly on the device. When the debugger tries to connect, it looks for the executable name, and if it is not there, they give this error. Click one to debug.

Go to the build option and select a valid compiler.
