How can I hide or reduce VS2017 vertical lines in the editor

Visual Studio 2017 uses fairly bright, dotted vertical lines in the indentation of the code to highlight the scale of various areas.

How can I turn them off or make them less bright?

You can reduce the intensity of these lines:

In VS2017, go to the Tools, Options ... menu.

Go to the "Environment / Fonts and Colors" section and select the "Guide Line Structure" display element.

Click Custom, then drag the black arrow to the right of the dialog box until you see the color you want.
