Getting this error while opening the .cshtml file:

The operation could not be completed. Invalid pointer

It all starts after installing updates 3 and .Net Core. The mvc core app .cshtml application files open correctly.

Please clear the Visual Studio component cache, restart Visual Studio and try again. I suspect that after the upgrade you have a version conflict. The component cache is located in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache

For those who are crazy like me, trying to fix this problem, the solution for me was in web.config. I set the value of webpages:Version to 3.0.0.0 . Now I can open the cshtml files again.

  <appSettings> <add key="webpages:Version" value="3.0.0.0" /> </appSettings>
