Visual studio does not recognize Windows 10 sdk in version 10.0.14393.0

my Visual Studio does not recognize my Windows 10 SDK.

Actions for its reproduction:

  • Install VS 2015 Professional with Update 3 and select the Windows SDK for version 10.0.14393.0 as an optional feature.
  • Build a UWP app with this version
  • The following error is displayed in the output window: Error: the project requires the SDK platform (UAP, Version = 10.0.14393.0), which is not installed. For more information, go to the following link: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?prd=12514&pver=14.0&sbp=PlatformSDKMissing&plcid=0x409&o1=UAP,%20Version=10.0.14393.0
  • Uninstall Windows 10 SDK 10.0.14393.0
  • Install the Windows 10 SDK 10.0.14393.0 from the link in step 3
  • Create a UWP application with version 10.0.14393.0, and the same error will appear as in step 3.

Additional information: in the list of programs and functions of the control panel, the name sdk: Windows Software Development Kit - Windows 10.0.14393. 795 and version 10. 1 0.14393. 795

I assume that the version is incorrect in the registry and therefore visual studio cannot find sdk.

If I look under the path C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Windows Kits \ 10 \ Platforms \ UAP, I can see a directory with the name 10.0.14393.0 that contains Platform.xml and the PreviousPlatforms.xml file, as it should be. Along the path C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Windows Kits \ 10 \ bin there is a directory named 10.0.14393.0, so the SDK seems to be installed correctly

I already tried reinstalling the visual studio and several SKDs in different versions from VS or an online link, and nothing worked. If I am targeting a different version of the SDK, for example 10.0.10586, I can create a project.

Thank you for reading. I am grateful for every hint in the right direction.

The solution is reinstalling windows and a clean installation of Visual Studio. Somehow the system got messed up, and even a visual reinstallation of the studio did not help.

Reinstalling Windows is not required. Modify your existing VS2017 installation and uncheck the box next to the Universal Windows Platform, then go to the Individual Features tab and select the Windows SDK 10.0.14393.

Click "Edit."

When finished, change the existing VS2017 installation again and double-check the universal Windows platform development window and click "Change."

The problem is resolved and no restart is required.

I had the same problem, but it was solved by installing the .033 version, not the latest .795 version. It is available on the SDK download page in the SDK description by clicking on the link for "QFE":

Windows 10 SDK (version 10.0.14393.795 - QFE for 10.01.14393.033) and Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 mobile

Also, although this was not required, I uninstalled .795 and then rebooted. Then install .033, and then reboot it before trying to open a visual studio.

I have already installed the Windows SDK 10.0.14393.795 successfully. Then I create a UWP project whose goal is 14393. Therefore, I could not reproduce your problem.

If you tried to restore your visual studio, but it still doesn’t work. It is better to use http://aka.ms/vscollect to collect installation logs. Locate vslogs.zip from the% temp% folder. Download the file and share the link here. I will help you find the root cause according to the log file.
