Sql Server 2016 "Parameter is incorrect" Foreign key on the database diagram

I use some strange problems when using database diagrams in Sql Server 2016 ...

First, I cannot create relationships by dragging them between columns, both in the same and in different tables.

Secondly, when I try to create a foreign key relationship manually in the Database Diagram or open a database diagram with a table containing a foreign key relationship with another table in the diagram, I get the error "The parameter is invalid" and it gets stuck trying to load diagram, repeatedly generating an error again and again.

I know that I did this before, and I know that this should work ... If someone can ease my problem for me, we will be very grateful!

This is a complete snapshot in the dark, but I ran into a similar problem for mySQL - more related to relationships with foreign keys. You may need to somehow drop the foreign key constraints while you enter the relationships manually. And then back to normal. I don’t know if there is such a setting for SQL Server 16, but I thought it might be something to look at
