Ubuntu Internet Access on VirtualBox

I recently installed Ubuntu on a virtual virtual machine, which it installed just fine (much easier than on VirtualPC). However, I can’t access the Internet from the guest OS (e.g. Ubuntu). Can someone give me any directions as to how I can enable this?

The host system is Windows Vista, and the hardware is IBM Lenovo.

How did you set up the network when creating the guest? The easiest way is to install the network adapter on NAT if you do not need access to vm from another computer.

I could get rid of the following solution (working with a Ubuntu 14 guest virtual machine on a Windows 7 host or Ubuntu 9.10 Casper guest virtual machine on a Windows XP x86 host):

  • Go to network connections β†’ Virtual cell Network for hosting only β†’ Select β€œProperties”
  • Checking the VirtualBox Bridged Network Driver
  • Come to VirtualBox Manager, select the network adapter as a bridge adapter and the device name in step 1.
  • Reboot the virtual machine.

I had the same problem.

Solved by sharing the Internet connection (on the hosting OS).

Network Connection Properties β†’ Advanced β†’ Allow Other Users to Connect ...

this may be a problem with your particular network adapter. I have a Dell 15R and no working drivers for ubuntu or ubuntu server; I even tried to compile the wireless drivers myself, but to no avail.

However, in virtual boxing, I was able to get wireless work using the default configuration. It automatically connected my internal wireless adapter and, therefore, used the wireless connection of my native OS for wireless communication.

If you are trying to get a separate wireless connection from ubuntu in a virtual box, then more settings will be required. If yes, let me know if not, I will not introduce instructions into what you do not want to do, as in some cases it is quite difficult.

ps you should use windows 7 if you have any technical inclination. Do you live under a rock? No crime is intended.

I had a similar issue in Windows 7 + ubuntu 12.04 as a guest. I allowed

  • open 'network and sharing center' in windows
  • right click 'nw-bridge' -> 'properties'
  • Select "virtual box only network" for the option "select the adapters you want to use to connect computers on the local network"
  • go to the virtual box. select network type as NAT.
