Visual Studio 2012: Unable to attach process. Debugger is already connected

I built the solution, created the application in IIS, and mapped it to the application folder. It is working fine. Then I go to "Attach to Process", there are two w3wp.exe processes in the list, but for one of them I get the error message "The process could not be attached. The debugger is already attached." I googled this, but I can not find a solution to my problem.

I installed Debug Diagnostic Tool v2.0 , and as a result I have a Debug diagnostic service that starts automatically and attaches to one of w3wp. After disabling and disabling this service, everything works fine. Therefore, if you get error checking routines in the task manager that might capture your w3wp process.

May use this link if the link provided by @mtkachenko above does not work.

Really weird - but this simple thing works for me:

  • Browse to some file in your main project.

  • Go to the Project menu and select Set as start-up project .

This may seem redundant if you have already selected this project as your starting project before, but it seems to work.
