What are the main differences between Graylog2 and Kibana?

We are already using Graylog2, but I must admit that I do not really like the interface. Just wonder if it might be useful to switch to Kibana.

At my company, we started with Graylog2 and recently installed Kibana3. My personal opinion is that Kibana3 is more suitable for non-dev, and Graylog is not.

Kibana:

  • Pretty dashboards
  • Graphs, charts and images
  • "panel" by adding parallel coordinate diagrams , for example
  • Simple / flexible control of dashboards (they are saved directly in their own ES index)
  • Easy deployment (just clone the Kibana3 repository and submit it to your web server).

Graylog2

  • Simpler interface
  • Simple log analysis and good search capabilities.
  • Integrated authentication and user permissions
  • Built-in alert mechanisms for your selected threads

We still have Graylog2 working in parallel with Kibana3, but I don’t think it will last much longer. Kibana3 provides most, if not all, of the features (which we need), and in addition, it provides user-friendly interfaces.

Working with both quite extensively, I can say that merging both would be great. Graylog's thread alert is very neat and gives you very fast performance. Again, setting up the Kibana panel (although not as complete as many people think) is very enjoyable. Mixing and matching queries and filters in the context of a particular panel is very powerful. If only Kibana integrated a thread-like panel with a warning ...
