Android CollapsingToolbarLayout without a toolbar to stop at a specific point and not completely close

I understand that the toolbar is necessary so that CollapsingToolbarLayout does not close completely when scrolling: for example:

I'm trying to figure out if I can leave with CollapsingToolbarLayout without a toolbar in it and still not completely close?
