NX, or actually the “NX processor bit,” is a processor feature that helps protect your computer from malware attacks. When this function is not enabled and you try to run certain emulators in Android studio, you will receive an error message similar to this (second line: "You do not support NX."):

Error message

To check if NX is enabled on your processor, you can use the "coreinfo" command-line tool (available here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc835722 )

coreinfo command line tool

If you see a dash next to "NX", it means that it is disabled. If so, check to see if your processor supports the NX processor bit. In the above example, I am using the i7-2600K processor. Accordingly ( http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core%20i7-2600K%20CM8062300833908.html ) the list on cpu-world must be maintained.

Since it is supported, but appears to be disabled in "coreinfo", it has probably been disabled in the BIOS. Therefore, go to the BIOS settings and be sure to enable it:

BIOS Setup NX

Once you do this, you can check "coreinfo" again to see if it is successfully turned on:

coreinfo with NX support

Note that there is now an asterisk (*) next to “NX,” which means it has been successfully turned on. Now you should not receive an error message in Android Studio.

PS: In our example, Intel HAXM was also missing, so the error message shown above was larger. This problem can be solved by downloading the appropriate software (here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-hardware-accelerated-execution-manager )
