XAML Edit & Continue in Visual Studio 2015 (Update 2) doesn't seem to work

I cannot get XAML Edit and Continue (WPF) to work.

I have Visual Studio 2015 Update 2, so it should work as indicated here: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/2016/04/06/ui-development-made-easier-with-xaml- edit-continue /

However, after any changes to the XAML source (font size, color, directly or in the resource, ...) the change is not applied in real time.

I am on Windows 7, the latest version of the .NET Framework. Something is missing for me.

OK, I found this in a comment from Dante Gagne (Program Manager @Microsoft) from the link in your question. I have VS2015 Professional Update 2 and was wondering what was going on.

I apologize for the confusion. "Edit and Continue" is ONLY available in the preview of Visual Studio "15". The peculiarity is the one that we were still working on, but we did not feel ready for the RTM branch. This means that Edit and Continue will not work in Visual Studio 2015.

In addition, if you are working with the Universal Project Windows Platform (UWP), you must use Windows Insider build 14295 or later with the Windows Insider SDK build 14295 or later.

If you meet these criteria and still cannot get it to work, PLEASE contact me and I will see if I can help.

His contact information is in the link with your question. Added again here

Update 6/23/2016 Visual Studio 2015 will still have Update 3. However . On the current RC, I do not see any plans for editing xaml and will continue. See Visual Studio 2015 3 RC Update

Update 8/12/2016 As mentioned in a comment on VS2015 Update 3, NOT has XAML Edit and Continue. Looks like we'll have to wait until VS 15 is released. I will update again if I see that Microsoft has released a release date.

Update 5/10/2017 VS2017 is missing, and I believe that this is the version where it is supported. There are probably no more updates from here.

Other reasons:

  • You may be in the Release build. This will allow you to edit, but will not change the changes due to optimization.

  • Your installation may be damaged. If you do not see the XAML listed in the Text Editors section, this may be a sign of an incomplete installation.

See VS2017 RC1 Installation Error - Microsoft.PortableLibrary.TargetingPack.Msi Error - No XAML for more details on how I fixed the damaged installation.

Make sure you are not just stupid and accidentally open the old VS2015 after the crash too :-) They look very similar.
