Saving master data using a parent

In my application, I have objects that can store some additional data. There are two types of such objects — those that must be unique and those that need not be unique.

Those that are unique have an additional attribute - uuid - which checks their uniqueness.

Fancy calls are called, for example, StoreObject and unique UniqueStoreObject. Except for this uuid attribute, they match exactly.

So, StoreObject is an object without a parent object. UniqueStoreObject is an object with a parent object set to StoreObject. As I said, objects described by both objects can be executed simultaneously in one backend.

But if I try to save an NSManagedContext in which I have StoreObjects, I get the log error messages from the log from Core Data -

CoreData: error: (1) I/O error for database at *path to base*/MapStorageTest.sqlite. SQLite error code:1, 'near "WHERE": syntax error' Core Data: error: -executeRequest: encountered exception = I/O error for database at *path to base*/MapStorageTest.sqlite. To make a stranger, this behavior is unstable. If it appears once, it will appear in the next application launches. But, if, for example, I delete the field of the same name or some other object (not mentioned here), or recreate one of these objects (delete it and write again in the model tool controlled by Xcode), it may disappear.

Could not find any relation to optional fields or unique constraints in the managed object tool. The only thing I could catch was that this StoreObject should have a child and be directly created in context before saving.

When I created a separate object for non-unique stores that have no attributes and are a child of StoreObject, the problem disappeared only

I think there are two overlap problems: the main problem is the restriction of uniqueness on uuid . I tried to create a similar setting for myself, and the only situation in which I could reproduce the error was that uuid has a uniqueness constraint .

I note from your question that you do not believe that the uniqueness constraint is related, but I think this is due to a secondary problem: I was initially puzzled because my attempt to apply the uniqueness constraint did not work. While your SQLDebug was showing the UNIQUE attribute for uuid when creating the database:

Then I tried to remove the restriction.

And the problem continued. Even if I cleaned the assembly, removed the application from the simulator and repeated: the same problem occurred. Be that as it may, despite the fact that the data model editor did not show uuid restrictions, one of them was used. I looked at the XML hidden inside xcdatamodeld and here it is:

Just Xcode just does not update the model to reflect the added / removed uniqueness constraints . However, if you make another change to the model (for example, add and remove an attribute), the uniqueness constraints will be changed, when creating tables the UNIQUE definition for uuid will be applied, and the error will disappear.

This is consistent with your own observations:

But, if I, for example, delete the field of the same name or some other object (not mentioned here), or recreate one of these objects (delete it and write again in the model tool of the managed Xcode), it may disappear.

Changes you make to other objects or attributes in the model change any changes to the uniqueness constraints.

Once you get around this problem with Xcode, the main problem becomes clearer: Uniqueness constraints just don't work for entities .

All this is an explanation, not a solution. I am assuming some specific code for your subclass of UniqueStoreObject , instead of using CoreData's uniqueness constraints. I wish I had a better solution, but I hope you can sleep a little better.
