What package to download for material design icons?

If I go to https://design.google.com/icons/ and I select the download icon, it gives me the ability to download 18dp, 24dp, 36dp, or 48dp. I downloaded the 24dp package and it came up with images of hdpi, mdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi and xxxhdpi. So I'm not sure what the difference is in downloading other packages from 18dp, 36dp or 48dp. Does anyone know the difference? What would be the best download to have the best compatibility on most Android devices?

So I'm not sure what the difference is in downloading other packages from 18dp, 36dp or 48dp.

If you download the 24dp icon pack, it will contain the following images:

  • 24x24px mdpi (1x)
  • 36x36px hdpi (1.5x)
  • 48x48px xhdpi (2x)
  • 72x72px xxhdpi (3x)
  • 96x96px xxxhdpi (4x)

All of them will create a 24dp image on screens with different DPI. It works similarly to other base sizes.

What size to get?

Toolbar icons are usually 24dp.

Notification Icons - 24dp.

The default button is 36dp (plus 6dp top and bottom, which is 48dp), so I wouldn’t eat 36dp for the icon. All that came next would stretch the button.

18dp, 24dp, 36dp and 48dp are the optimal icon size. If you added this icon to ImageView and made wrap_content in height or width, they would be 18, 24, 36 or 48dp respectivley. This means that they are best suited for this width and height.

Now hdpi, mdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi and xxxhdpi are designed to support multiple devices with different resolutions. If you want more information about each of them, make a payment http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html

It mainly supports multiple devices and resolution! Icons with a higher resolution (dpi) will look good on devices! low resolution images look distorted.

you are checking this link and hoping that this will clarify some of your doubts.
