Running Unit Test in Visual Studio is very slow, repeatedly loading / unloading the same DLL

Problem

I have serious delays (several minutes) when starting Unit Test, and it doesn't seem to matter if I'm debugging or not.

When debugging, which I see in the output window, there is one package that reloads and unloads again. This happens literally a thousand times.

I tried...

  • Starting Visual Studio 2013 as an administrator.
  • the following solution: https://stackoverflow.com/a/166268/2126/167/ (I only include my code and download all the characters), but when I click the button to load all the characters in Visual Studio it just crashes. (sometimes immediately, sometimes after the download is complete)
  • enable / disable Microsoft Symbol Servers, which does not make a difference.
  • running Visual Studio with logging enabled, but there is nothing that seems unusual or related to my problem.
  • Create a new empty test project from scratch. Same problem

I ran into the same problem in my dev block. I opened the violinist and found many calls in "symweb".

So, I created an autoresponder rule for a violinist to reject these calls. After that, the delay before starting the test was reduced in less than a second.

This is probably not the final answer because it is applicable to Visual Studio 2015, but it may help some people.

We recently installed the Microsoft ASP.NET and Web Tools update (via extensions and updates), and since then slow detection of unit tests has been allowed. Instead of running about 2 minutes to run one unit test, it now only takes a few seconds.

The extension has been updated from version 14.1.11107.0 to 14.1.21111.0
