How to set up USB driver for ADB for Sony Smartwatch 3 on Windows 10

I am trying to configure ADB debugging via a wired USB connection from my computer that is running Windows 10 Pro (on a 64-bit Core i7 processor) on Sony Smartwatch 3.

My computer is usually configured for Android Development, including Android Wear (for example, ADB debugs my Nexus 5X or Samsung Gear Live, both work fine). I turned on the developer’s options on the watch, including ADB Debugging.

I believe the problem is that I do not have the USB driver settings properly. As far as I know, it should work with the “Google USB Driver” that I installed, but nonetheless, I get a yellow triangle next to “Smartwatch 3” in the device manager.

I tried to follow the instructions “Cannot use Android USB Drivers in Windows 10” , but I received this error dialog box and could not continue:

Select device

The specified folder does not contain compatible software for your device. If the folder contains the driver, make sure that it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.

While I was writing this question, I managed to get it to work!

Here is what I did:

I followed the instructions for this post :

1) Right-click on the "Start" menu and select "Device Manager"

2) Right-click on the Android device and select "Update Driver"

3) Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

4) Select Let me choose from the list of device drivers on my computer.

At the moment, I selected “Android device” (or one of the Android things anyway), and then “Android ADB Interface”, instead of using the path to the Google USB driver.
